IRON PROTEIN SUCCINYLATE

Iron Protein Succinylate (Tablet / Syrup Grade) is the most effective oral supplement for correcting iron deficiency anemia (IDA). Iron Protein Succinylate is a proprietary form of ferric iron (Fe+++) bound with a chemically modified protein (casein) in a process called succinylation, which dramatically stabilizes the complex. This process is responsible for the specific way in which Iron Protein Succinylate is totally dependent on pH for absorption. Because Iron Protein Succinylate is insoluble in the stomach, it completely bypasses the stomach without exposing the gastric mucosa to iron. This is the optimal method to transport iron where absorption takes place – the duodenum. Here, Iron Protein Succinylate becomes completely soluble in the duodenum, where the pH level allows for rapid hydrolysis of the protein component, and liberation of the elemental ferric iron for immediate absorption. Iron Protein Succinylate is the only iron compound that provides this proven, highest degree of tolerability. Since Iron Protein Succinylate provides a steady, controlled release of iron in a low concentration form, the iron overload is nearly impossible.

Iron is an integral part of many proteins and enzymes that maintain good health. Iron is also an essential component of hemoglobin, an erythrocyte protein that transfers oxygen from the lungs to the tissues. As a component of myoglobin, a protein that provides oxygen to muscles, iron supports metabolism which helps in the regulation of cell growth and differentiation. A deficiency of iron limits oxygen delivery to cells, resulting in fatigue, poor work performance, and decreased immunity. Conversely, excess amounts of iron can result in toxicity and even death.

Recommendation: 300 mg of Iron Protein Succinylate in a tablet & 800 mg of Iron Protein Succinylate in a syrup form supplies 83 *percent of the daily value (*Percent Daily Values are based on the 2000 Calorie Diet. Daily values may be higher or lower depending on your calorie needs). Since this is a dietary supplement, the Food and Drug Administration has not conducted its own tests for safety and effectiveness.

Antibiotics Interaction:

Iron might decrease how much antibiotic the body absorbs. Taking iron along with some antibiotics might decrease the effectiveness of some antibiotics. To avoid this interaction take iron two hours before or two hours after taking antibiotics 

Safety and Precautions:

Iron Protein Succinylate is LIKELY SAFE for most adults when taken by mouth in doses up to 1600 mcg daily for up to 6 months. Some people experience side effects such as nausea, vomitingdiarrheaconstipationabdominal painflatulence, and heartburn. High doses have been linked to more serious side effects including Iron supplements should not be used in patients with thalassemia, hemosiderosis, hemochromatosis, or in those patients receiving repeat blood transfusions (due to the potential for iron overload). Additionally, patients with normocytic anemias (i.e., anemia of chronic disease, hemolytic anemia) should not receive iron unless an iron deficiency also exists. Individuals with normal iron balance should not take iron chronically.
In children, chromium is LIKELY SAFE when taken by mouth in amounts that do not exceed the “adequate intake” (AI) levels. Taking chromium by mouth is POSSIBLY SAFE when used in amounts that exceed the AI levels. Otherwise over dosing may leads to death in small children.

Few precautions are listed below associated with taking of Iron Protein Succinylate-

Constipation and Diarrhea-

They are very common. If constipation becomes a problem, take a stool softener such as docusate sodium (Colace). Black stools are normal when taking iron tablets. In fact, this is felt to be a sign that the tablets are working correctly.

Nausea and Vomiting-

They may occur with higher doses, but they can be controlled by taking the iron in smaller amounts.

Stomach or Intestinal Ulcers-

Iron might cause irritation and make these conditions worse. Use iron with care.

Intestinal Inflammation, Such as Ulcerative Colitis or Crohn’s Disease:

Hemoglobin Disease (like Thalassemia)-

Intake of iron might cause higher iron concentration in body. If the person is suffering from hemoglobin disease, don’t take iron unless directed to do so by your healthcare provider.

Premature Infants-

Giving iron to premature infants with low blood levels of vitamin E can cause serious problems. The vitamin E deficiency should be corrected before giving iron. Talk with your healthcare provider before giving iron to a premature infant.
